Reach Out and Lend a Helping Hand

reach out and lend a helping hand framework

It all began with a dream…

Back in late 2016, singer Andrew Randell had a dream about doing something big to raise money for homeless people. He partnered up with composer Chris Lawry and began what was to be a nine month project in collaboration with the charity Framework.

The song was inspired by the responses of the pupils of Kirkby Woodhouse School after participating in a workshop on homelessness delivered by the charity. During 2017 over 300 volunteer singers and instrumentalists signed up to record their parts for the song. Each choir, singer or musician was recorded separately or remotely and then pieced back together in the recording studio. The resulting track was mastered by Ian Jones at Abbey Road.

A CD of the song raised many thousands of pounds for the charity and it continues to be performed every year by choirs, including the choir of Southwell Minster, Nottinghamshire.

In 2022, to mark the five year anniversary, Moonhouse Music has taken over as publisher and released a refreshed version which now includes streaming and digital platforms as well as the sheet music. All proceeds from the song go to Framework.
